As part of our good practice we use a Key Person and Buddy system. Children are allocated a member of staff as their Key Person who they will meet and spend time with when parent and child join us in their “Welcome Session”. Parents can talk to their child’s Key Person if they have any concerns or want advice. A child’s Key Person will record observations in the child’s Learning Journal and ensure the child is progressing. They will formally discuss this information with parents at twice yearly Parent Consultations, but they are also there to give and receive information at the start and end of sessions.

Key Persons do not work every day so childen are allocated a staff member as a Buddy who can provide comfort, play and security in addition to their Key Person. Parents can speak to their child’s Key Person or their Buddy at any time. Equally parents can speak to any member of staff they feel comfortable with.
